Second City of London Orienteering Race

The event last year was good , this year was better. The courses started just north of St Paul’s and covered a nice section of central London, as can be seen from my route.

I started well – running fast and navigating well, which may explain the three minutes I wasted going to the fifth control. I took what I felt to be the simpler route choice and overshot the turning I required by quite a distance. In the end I approached the control from the rear.

I managed to get back on track and ran well. The section through the Barbican was complicated – reading the different levels was difficult and I lost about 40 seconds on both controls 15 and 20. However, I was maintaining a good running pace. Towards the end I lost 30 seconds on having to take a breather after running up a set of steps – my body was nearing the limit.

In to the finish I managed to get up a decent pace and got the joint fastest final leg run in time. A good bit of sprinting! :)
