Skipton Town Race
Saturday evening involved some of the group heading off to night orienteer around another part of Leeds. While they were doing that the rest of us found a place to get curry and watched TV.
Sunday saw the final part of the weekend – an urban orienteering race around Skipton. On arriving at the race I really did not feel that enthused, but I got ready anyway and went for a warm up run and stretch. Surprisingly, my legs still felt fairly good at this stage. Something in my mind clicked during the warm up and suddenly I was ready and raring to start.
I started well, quickly picking up the routes I wanted for the early controls. After three controls I caught up with an earlier start and, pleasingly, I then burnt this person off my tail after a few more controls.
I continued a good pace navigating well for the rest of the course. I had some problems through a couple of sections where we were on grass/parkland – or rather the muddy parts thereof – as my racing shoes had too little grip. I took 56:22 to the winning time of 39:33.
