Spey2007 Days 4, 5, and 6
Day 4 – Culbin
My Route
Reasonable day, but could have been much better. On any of the longer legs I seemed to be zig-zagging rather than running directly in the direction I was planning on going – losing a few minutes in total. On the penultimate course I ran in the right general direction, but lost concentration and drifted away from the control – losing four minutes relocating. Other than these problems I navigated well and found I could match the map and ground.
Day 5 – Camerory
My Route
I did not enjoy this day – running across the thick heather was uninteresting and out in the open there were large enough features to aim at for any of the long legs. On going back into the forest I then lost a few minutes not relating map and ground.
Day 6 – Anagach West & Heathfield
By this stage of the week I was tired. My navigation suffered and I made mistakes at each of the first six controls – losing about nine minutes in total. By this stage I realised that I would not improve my overall result and that my orienteering was getting worse. So, I decided to retire and had a thirty minute jog around the tracks to get into the finish.
