Basingstoke parkrun

Another trip yesterday to Basingstoke to run in the weekly parkrun 5k. It was also the Christmas event and social, which meant that several people were in fancy dress. My parents were also around with mum also running the 5k.

I had decided that I would start off and see if I was up for a decent time or if I would take it more easily. The first km was at an ok pace, but I did not push the pace – I had more running coming up later in the day. A solid 21:49, with each km being slower than the previous.

On finishing I went off to catch up with mum, so that I could run the last part of the course with her. On meeting her I realised that she was making a good pace and was possibly on schedule for a PB. I encouraged her to keep the pace up and to aim to catch the person in front. Apparently my time calculation was off – mum kept a decent pace to the finish and took 71 seconds off her PB.
