Forest 5
Yesterday evening saw another race – a trip out to Bracknell Forest for a five mile race. Last week I had had a hectic day before racing, but this week was more relaxed. Sadly, my legs felt tired during my warm up.
I started slowly and then picked up to a reasonable pace in the first quarter mile. The first four miles were at a fairly even pace – with the hills not slowing us down too much. The mud and film set did not cause problems either, though my shoes could do with a clean after a trip through a particularly muddy patch.
Split times for the first four miles: 7:40 – 7:30 – 7:40 – 7:41
Then, on starting the last mile, R took off. At Shinfield R had done something similar and I did not manage to catch him that day. I thought that may be the case here, but decided to put a lot of effort in to power back to him on some of the longer down hill sections. I caught R with about 100m to go and then sprinted past him on the last bit. We did 6:32 for the last mile and I really felt it afterwards.
Overall a time of just over 37 minutes. I am happy with that and the race was an enjoyable run around a good local forest.
