Two PBs – Basingstoke parkrun and Salisbury 10
Two PBs this weekend – one for mum and one for me.
Basingstoke parkrun
On Saturday I travelled down to Basingstoke, where I met with my parents. Mum had decided it was time for an attack on her 5k PB and, with me running Salisbury 10 the next day, I decided to run with her. The aim was for a solid, sub31 time and being close to 30 would be a bonus.
At the start we were not paying too much attention and suddenly realised that the front of the field was off running. The first km was a bit too quick – I found it difficult to judge the pace we wanted. The next two were slower, and the last two were good. Mum finished in 30:07 – a 70 second PB, to add to the 71 seconds she took off it last time she ran!
Salisbury 10
Today was Salisbury. It was windy out there today, but I was pleased that I managed to keep a reasonable pace in tough conditions. I managed a small PB – about 15s, but not exactly sure of my time as I was having the chip taken off my ankle before I remembered to stop my watch. I feel very tired now – legs are mashed.
7:12 – a reasonable start, making sure I did not go out too fast
7:04 – keep the pace high
7:21 – a gentle incline, but keep moving well
7:05 – a decent pace
7:31 – more inclines
7:11 – turn the top corner and straight into the wind, though I run this mile strongly
7:32 – hills and strong winds
7:39 – more hills and more strong winds
7:22 – flat, but that only means the wind is stronger; just after the water station I get blown to a standstill!
7:16 – final mile, still into the wind, gave everything and sprint strongly
Though it could have been worse – I had just finished my cool down and got changed when a heavy rain shower came through. I was able to dive in the car with my lunch.
